2009 Season in Review
2009 - What a busy and exciting year for us.
Christine Coles has joined us as Personal Assistant to Ian, taking care of much of the paperwork and day to day activities of WSX, thus freeing Ian up for research into new and exciting adventures (which translates as more hunting!).
Our clients have hunted on three continents this year - Timkulu Safaris, Tshipise Safaris and Bahati Safaris in South Africa, Zambeze Delta Safaris in Mozambique, Whiteswan Lake in Canada, Endyalgout Island and Muckadilla Safaris in Australia, Riverview Lodge in New Zealand and Argentina Safaris in Argentina.
Our first group of hunters for 2009 joined John and Robin Gemmell at Riverview Lodge in the South Island of New Zealand. Riverview Lodge has only 6 or 7 duck hunts per year - spelling their areas and maximizing the chances of successful hunts.
The group summed up their time there as ‘by far one of the best duck shoots we have been on in all respects’ and booked their 2010 hunt prior to departing!
June saw a group off to Timkulu Safaris in South Africa for ten days of African wild bird shooting. Up to twelve species of birds can be taken in a day - our group shot walked up Swainson’s Francolin over dogs, Rock Pigeon, Doves, walked up and driven Guineafowl, Duck and Goose. Two nights were spent at the fabulous Tswalu Private Desert Reserve where Timkulu host Fanus Greyling holds Namaqua Sandgrouse shooting rights. As well as vast concessions of over 200,000 hectares Timkulu Safaris have their own game park where every conceivable species of Southern African Antelope can be hunted.
A group to Bahati Hunting Safaris in Mozambique departed in July. In this unfenced, remote wilderness free ranging Buffalo, Sable, Warthog and Reedbuck were hunted. Bahati Hunting Safaris are unique in their habitat diversity with large rivers, swamps, flood plains, grassy plains, woodlands and forests.
Still in Mozambique we had a hunt with Mark Haldane of Zambezi Delta Safaris with clients taking Sable, Buffalo and other plains game. The spectrum of wildlife at Zambeze Delta Safaris is quite remarkable, having 20 huntable species from tiny Livingston Suni to Elephant.
Tshipise Safaris were very busy this season with seven groups visiting over July, August and September. Clients included a group of four hunters along with their wives/partners - there is something for everyone at Tshipise. The main camp of Popallin is situated on the Nwanedi and Limpopo Rivers. Timkulu Safaris have 25 species of game available for rifle and bow hunting - they are particularly known for their large Kudu.
Two groups spent an unforgettable time at the breathtaking & Beyond Ngala Private Game Reserve, Kruger National Park. Memorable game viewing in one of the most renown Big Five wildlife regions, luxury thatched cottages or tented camps exuding classical safari charm. & Beyond have a passion for guests delight.
Late August saw a group travel to Argentina. Our very good client Vince led a group of four friends to wingshoot with Luis Bertone of Argentina Safaris. The attached photograph speaks for itself. Argentina Safaris boasts sophisticated luxury, unparalleled natural beauty and world class hunting.
Thank you to all those who hunted with WSX this year. Now it’s time to think about hunting adventures in 2010! February will see the launching of our new logo and website - www.worldsafarixpeditions.com
REMEMBER Once is never enough!
Happy New Year and safe hunting.
Ian and Pam Head.
